Top 7 Bitcoin Whale Withdraws $627 Million in BTC From Major Exchange
A significant transfer surprised the cryptocurrency market on April 1 as the seventh richest Bitcoin address made an enormous withdrawal from Bitfinex, taking out a whopping 8,889 BTC. This transaction, valued at an astounding $627 million, has captured significant attention within the crypto community due to the mysterious nature of the address.
Speculation is rife that the origin of this massive transfer can be traced back to Tether, the influential force behind the popular stablecoin USDT. Tether’s inclination towards Bitcoin investments has been well-known, with previous purchases amounting to thousands of BTC.
With this latest move, Tether’s cryptocurrency holdings have grown even larger, reaching an estimated 75,354 BTC, equivalent to an impressive $5.22 billion.

The decision to prioritize Bitcoin as an investment over traditional assets such as U.S. government debt appears to be part of Tether’s long-term strategy, echoing statements made by CEO Paolo Ardoino. Ardoino has hinted at an ambitious quarterly plan to allocate up to 15% of the company’s profits towards acquiring Bitcoin.
Tether’s strong presence in the market is further emphasized by its recent announcement of expecting record-breaking profits for the first quarter of 2024. With a staggering $105 billion market capitalization, Tether’s dominance in the stablecoin market remains unmatched.
Not content with solely accumulating cryptocurrency, the company is also venturing into other sectors, including significant investments in AI and active involvement in lobbying efforts, positioning itself as a key player in the global financial landscape.
