- Twitter forcibly took away one user’s account. The organization offered him minor compensation for this.
- The company was interested in the @X descriptor, which corresponds to the platform’s new branding.
Twitter social media user Gene X. Hwang claimed the @X descriptor was taken away from him on the platform, Mashable reported. As compensation, he was offered branded merch and a meeting with management.
Jean H. Hwan signed up for Twitter about 16 years ago.. When he created the account, he chose the @X descriptor. The user was genuinely excited about Twitter’s rebranding until he received an email from the company, the publication claims.
E-mail was sent from an email account [email protected]. It said the platform was taking over the account. As compensation, he was offered branded merchandise and a meeting with someone in management, Hwang said.
The user refused the merch and a visit to the firm. On Wednesday, July 26, he posted a message with an already new handle – @x12345678998765. Neither Twitter nor the company’s owner Ilon Musk has commented on the situation.
It’s not the first time something like this has happened. In late April 2023, Platformer editor Zoe Schieffer published a denunciation of Ilon Musk.
She said the company took away the @e account shortly after the purchase was finalized. According to her, the owner was not going to part with the account, and then the administration simply blocked it. As of this writing, the page is called “John Utah,” which is the pseudonym of the hero from the movie “On the Crest of the Wave.” The account is subscribed to Ilon Musk, NASA, and the nonprofit organization LAist.
