UK advisor names timeline for when AI will cause catastrophe

  • This is the opinion of the British Advanced Research and Invention Agency
  • They give humanity 2 years
  • That’s the time to figure out how to control AI

There are a growing number of politicians and experts in Britain who are calling for urgent control of AI. The other day this statement was made by the Labor Party, the largest opposition force.. They believe that artificial intelligence “can have many unintended consequences.”. So strict laws and oversight of developers are needed.

Yesterday, the politicians’ views were echoed by Matt Clifford, chairman of the Advanced Research and Invention Agency. It’s a government research agency.

So, in a TV interview, Clifford warned that AI could become a threat to humans in just two years.

“If we don’t start thinking about regulation and security now, in two years we will have really powerful systems.”

The expert noted that humans can now use AI to “launch massive cyber attacks.”. Neural networks are learning fast, so they may soon pose an even greater threat.

OpenAI donated $1 million this week to support cybersecurity technology. They will support startups that counter AI threats.

In the meantime, the EU is requiring AI-generated content to be flagged. This will help distinguish such pictures and videos from “human” creations.
