Upstart ‘Degenerate’ Crypto-Culture Publication Bets on Print

Revolutionary Crypto-Culture Magazine Takes Unconventional Approach to Print Edition

SALT LAKE CITY — The cryptocurrency world is undergoing a significant challenge: an overwhelming majority of its participants are male. However, a new magazine is looking to capitalize on this gender imbalance in a way that will leave an impression as lasting as a successful crypto trade.

Superbasedd, a recently launched lifestyle publication rooted in Los Angeles, plans to launch a print edition targeting the primal instincts prevalent in the crypto space. The magazine will feature a striking cover girl on the front page, an authoritative male startup founder on the back, and in between, captivating stories from the trading trenches of the crypto world.

“We’re all guys, we’re all daredevils, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned about adventurous men, it’s that they love women. And that’s the perfect foundation for a brand,” explained Superbasedd founder Steve McHugh.

Women will act as the “bait” for this magazine’s blend of authority and edginess, bringing web3 culture to male readers around the globe. By combining compelling visuals with thought-provoking cultural pieces, Superbasedd aims to capture the attention of both seasoned and younger male crypto enthusiasts.

However, while the magazine’s content strategy may be considered audacious, its staff matches this description perfectly. McHugh’s business partner, Jake Hillhouse, was set to participate in a martial arts fight event but suffered a serious injury in a dune buggy accident. During our impromptu interview, Hillhouse sported an arm sling and a wristband from the hospital he had been in just 48 hours prior.

Despite these setbacks, the publication has managed to secure significant funding. Earlier this month, Superbasedd raised nearly $1.1 million by selling NFTs that come with a three-year subscription, which will launch in the future. Additionally, a one-year subscription option will be available for $99.

McHugh intends to shed light on aspects of the crypto world that established media outlets have overlooked or abandoned. Currently, only Decrypt has dedicated reporters documenting the eccentric ways in which industry participants express themselves.

These stories often border on the bizarre and even scandalous. For instance, the memecoin factory Pump.Fun regularly witnesses token creators resorting to outlandish acts to boost the token’s value, such as a livestream in which a man smoked crack and had his head shaved by a stripper.

“Our edginess will start with the women and then delve into the eccentricities of developers,” Hillhouse remarked.

In addition to these captivating stories, Superbasedd plans to feature in-depth profiles of prominent male figures in the crypto industry. During our interview, McHugh mentioned the possibility of securing interviews with Solana’s founders, Raj Gokal and Anatoly Yakovenko, for the first edition, set to be released in October.

It certainly seems unusual for a crypto-focused publication to place its bets on print distribution. In an era where journalism is facing significant challenges, print media has become a critically endangered medium. However, Superbasedd’s team believes that the right blend of tactile formats, combined with lessons from the Instagram age, could prove successful. By captivating readers with attractive visuals and then engaging them with concise, digestible articles, the magazine hopes to create a unique reading experience.

McHugh envisions elevating Superbasedd to a level of prestige where it serves as a symbol of luxury, adorning the coffee tables of the wealthy residents of Hollywood Hills. He believes that the magazine’s broad relevance will be bolstered by America’s celebrity-driven culture.

At present, Superbasedd is heavily immersed in projects that only the most dedicated NFT traders on the Solana chain would truly appreciate. The publication recently acquired the intellectual property of Catalina Whale Mixer, a once-popular NFT collection with a market cap of $2.5 million, for less than $50,000. Their next target is the Thug Birdz NFT collection.

The three-person team behind Superbasedd sought assistance from mtnDAO in reaching out to other crypto founders. McHugh, a two-time attendee of the event, believes that physical crypto workspaces can expedite the implementation of unusual business ideas prevalent in this industry, such as the creation of tokens.

While their background may diverge from the norm at these hacker houses, which occur twice a year and attract a growing number of Solana developers to Salt Lake City, Superbasedd’s team is confident in their ability to provide innovative startup content.
