US Vice President Kamala Harris meets with leaders of AI development companies

  • It was attended by representatives from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and Anthropic
  • The parties discussed “responsible innovation” and additional security measures
  • It’s interesting that Mark Zuckerberg was not invited to the meeting

Yesterday, May 4, US Vice President Kamala Harris met with the heads of four major companies that develop AI-based products.

The parties discussed the potential risks from this technology, as well as ways in which the private sector and the government could work together.

Members of management from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and Anthropic attended the meeting.. In addition to the vice president, Biden’s nine advisers participated in the discussion.

Before that, the White House published a fact sheet “on advancing responsible innovation in the field of AI.”

In it, the president’s office stressed the need for the development of new technologies to improve living standards without endangering people’s rights and security.

“Technological progress always presents not only opportunities but also challenges.. Generative AI is no different.

Today (May 4) she met with the heads of the firms that are at the forefront of this area to discuss the responsibility we have to the public,” the vice president stressed.

The sides agreed on the need for new security measures, but without being specific.

It was notable that at one point President Joe Biden joined the discussion.. The head of state noted that he has already had a chance to test ChatGPT’s capabilities.

But Mark Zuckerberg was not invited. And this despite the fact that Meta has long been working on AI.

We also note that the Biden administration has announced the launch of seven research institutes in this area. Democrats will allocate $140 million for this.

We previously reported that the “godfather of AI” resigned from Google. He urges the public to pay attention to the many risks of unchecked development of this technology.
