Vitalik Buterin Shares Important Update on Ethereum Block Advancement
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently provided crucial updates on the advancement of Ethereum blocks. Buterin shared the information on X, referencing a post from Dan Robinson praising Max’s proposal over FOCIL.
In the post on X, Robinson, a researcher at Paradigm, stated that Max’s proposal prioritizes the ordering of transactions rather than the discretion of the leader. He added that no single assigned leader has the final say on on-chain transactions.
Robinson said, “Whatever you want to label this constellation of properties, I find it appealing.”
In response, Buterin highlighted that the Ethereum research team has agreed that it is a good idea to have multiple actors contribute to transactions that need to be included in the block. He also mentioned an open debate on whether it is possible to avoid a “last mover.”
The Ethereum founder expressed optimism that progress was being made on the protocol’s block-building, including an analysis of Orbit Single Slot Finality (SSF). He also believes that the topic of block construction is moving towards resolution.
It is worth noting that it currently takes approximately 15 minutes to finalize an Ethereum block. However, Ethereum’s research focuses on reducing the time-to-finality by improving the efficiency of the consensus mechanism. The goal is to offer and finalize blocks in the same slot, eliminating the delay.
Buterin also addressed claims that the Ethereum research team is promoting centralization, stating that they are actively working to reduce centralization. Recommendations include examining multi-proposer systems and exploring the possibility of dropping the builder position.
Additionally, Buterin highlighted other suggestions, such as distributed block building for PeerDAS, networking analysis, and bandwidth optimization of PeerDAS.
Overall, this discussion showcases the ongoing efforts by the Ethereum ecosystem to improve processes while maintaining security and trust. The ecosystem seeks to encourage wider adoption of Ethereum.
