Vitalik Buterin strongly criticized Michael Saylor’s comments on Bitcoin custody, calling them “batshit insane.” Saylor had advocated for transferring BTC to major financial institutions instead of self-custody. Buterin disagreed with Saylor’s regulatory capture approach and argued that self-custody is important for the strengthening and improvement of the entire network. Jameson Lopp, Chief Security Officer at Casa HODL, also critiqued institutional custody, highlighting concerns such as centralization and disenfranchisement from governance activities. Saylor, who holds 252,220 Bitcoin through MicroStrategy, responded to the criticism by tweeting a picture of him holding a red rose with the caption “Spread Bitcoin with love.” Despite Bitcoin’s struggles, Saylor remains committed to his long-term Bitcoin strategy.
