Web3 casinos amassed $5b in crypto from 4k wallets in 2023 alone, data shows

Data analysis reveals that web3 casinos and gambling websites received a staggering $5 billion worth of cryptocurrency in 2023 from approximately 4,000 wallets. These web3 platforms have proven to be highly lucrative, with just 4,000 Ethereum wallets responsible for the massive influx of crypto. Chainalysis, a blockchain forensic company, discovered that high-frequency players made a significant impact on web3 gaming businesses, transacting an average of $7,000 worth of crypto. While the number of whales involved in web3 casinos is relatively small, their contributions are substantial. Around 500 whales collectively transferred $320 million, averaging about $25,000 each. The disparity between the contributions of casual players and VIP clients is quite noticeable. It is worth noting that most transactions on web3 casinos involve personal wallets, with the majority of players depositing and withdrawing through these means. Crypto exchanges also play a significant role, representing 38% and 29% of deposits and withdrawals, respectively. Chainalysis emphasizes that the transparent nature of these transactions allows businesses to analyze player behavior and gain insights into their holdings, spending habits, and engagement across blockchain platforms. While web3 casinos have experienced consistent growth over the past four years, accumulating $78.7 billion in crypto, Chainalysis raises concerns about potential money laundering risks associated with these platforms.
