- Worldcoin introduced the World ID 2.0 protocol update.

Cryptocurrency project Worldcoin presented a new version of its protocol – World ID 2.0. According to the release, along with the update, the developers integrated the solution with a number of services.
In particular, we are talking about the web resources Reddit and Shopify, the Telegram messenger and the game Minecraft. In addition, in the near future the developers plan to add integration with the Mercado Libre platform and the Cassava wallet.
In a comment to TechCrunch, the head of the product department at Tools for Humanity, the developer of Worldcoin, noted that World ID 2.0 will significantly simplify working with the protocol and provide new opportunities:
“Reddit moderators will be able to reward users with World IDs with special privileges as proof that they are not spamming, for example.”
The new version of World ID has received several levels of security:
- World ID Device – a basic identifier that only requires binding to the owner’s smartphone;
- World ID Orb is a more advanced version with confirmation that the user has passed verification through a retinal scan;
- World ID Orb+ – maximum identifier level. Confirmation not only by the retina, but also by the face.
The task of this system is to make the protocol more adaptive, the developers noted. In some cases, a simple identifier will be enough for the user, while in others it will be necessary to provide a more advanced analogue.
In addition, along with the update, a number of new functions will be added to the protocol:
- resetting World ID if it is lost;
- protection of the private key of the identifier with end-to-end encryption;
- complete deletion of data if the user wants to abandon World ID;
- Wallet Bridge for interaction of crypto wallets with applications that support verification through the protocol.
World ID 2.0 update launched on December 13, 2023. Certain changes to the functionality of the protocol and platform will continue in the coming months.
Worldcoin will also launch local centers for retinal scanning in Singapore and Mexico. However, the exact timing of the latter has not been specified.
