Worldcoin will enable governments to use its identity system

Worldcoin plans to expand by allowing governments and companies to use its iris scanning and identity verification technology.

Ricardo Macieira, general manager of Tools For Humanity, the company behind the Worldcoin project, said the company aims to “create the best possible financial and personalized community.”

“The idea is that as we build this infrastructure, we allow third parties to use the technology,” he explained.

Maceira added that the company wants to ensure the product is more widely used by users.

“In the future, the technology behind the iris scanning balloon will be open source. And everyone will be able to use it for the benefit of the community,” he added.

Recently, there have been media reports that Worldcoin is trying to entice users to sign up for the platform. However, the project’s co-founder Sam Atman refuted those reports by posting a video of people standing in line for iris scans themselves.

Earlier, Kenya’s Home Affairs Minister Kithure Kindiki said the government was alarmed by Worldcoin’s activism and its potential implications for security, privacy and the rule of law.

France’s privacy protection service (CNIL) also said the legality of Worldcoin’s biometric data collection “seems questionable.”
