RR/BAYC is an alternative collection of BAYC NFTs created by artist Ryder Ripps. According to the Yuga Labs lawsuit, RR/BAYC employee Thomas Lehman actively promoted the RR/BAYC NFT collection on social media, which was seen as “a deliberate attempt to harm Yuga Labs at the expense of consumers by confusing the two closely related collections”. According to the plaintiff, the RR / BAYC collection earned about $1.6 million in sales, of which Leman personally received 15%.
As part of the settlement, Thomas Lehman waived ownership of the BAYC trademark and admitted that he had infringed the rights of Yuga Labs by his involvement in the development and promotion of the alternative RR/BAYC collection.. The terms of the settlement prohibit Lehman from further use of any BAYC trademark, destroy any materials in his possession containing this mark, and burn any RR/BAYC NFT tokens owned by him.
Earlier, a California court ruled that the two founders of Yuga Labs, Wylie Aronow (Wylie Aronow) and Greg Solano (Greg Solano), must come to court to testify and leave their positions. Both creators of the BAYC NFT collection were sentenced to temporary suspension from office for contempt of court, failure to appear at a hearing and willfully refusing to testify without good reason.
