Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous group of islands off the coast of East Africa, has launched a blockchain sandbox for startups to encourage innovation and attract entrepreneurs from neighboring countries. The government of Zanzibar aims to create an environment conducive to the development of cutting-edge technologies, including blockchain and AI. The sandbox will provide startups with opportunities to work on pilot projects, collaborate with experts, and receive mentorship from industry leaders. The government prioritizes solutions that address key challenges in the region, such as financial inclusion, certificate issuance, and identity verification. In mainland Tanzania, the government has also been promoting blockchain adoption and partnered with the African Blockchain Association to educate citizens about the technology.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese government has unveiled an ambitious national blockchain strategy with the goal of making Vietnam Asia’s blockchain hub by 2030. The strategy, spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Communications, aims to lay the groundwork for blockchain adoption by 2025. It focuses on six key pillars, including digital infrastructure growth, establishing control mechanisms, and building a sustainable digital economy. The strategy emphasizes the need for legal clarity, skilled developers, and investment in research and development. The government plans to integrate blockchain into educational institutions and promote blockchain research in innovation centers. The Vietnam Blockchain Association has been assigned a role in implementing the strategy, recognizing its contributions to the sector. However, establishing a comprehensive legal framework for blockchain and digital assets remains a crucial challenge in Vietnam’s journey to becoming a blockchain hub.
