When comparing cryptocurrency and blockchain news sites, it is difficult to rely on completely objective indicators for a number of reasons. The main one is the lack of reliable verified statistics, and almost no one publishes them openly.. And some instruments that are considered accurate can give a wide range of indicators. This is when the counters of both services are set correctly on all pages of the site. But sites almost never give such access for analysis either.
We have to rely on analysis systems that often compile statistics from incomplete data collected from browser plugins, providers, popular services, and other partners. For sites for which it does not have enough information to display, we will use the values of the Alexa service counter. The rating does not include only aggregators of other people’s news and news publications, in which news about cryptocurrencies and blockchain is not the main focus. There are publications in the ranking that aggregate other people’s news, if they have had their own stories spotted. There are also editions where you find the same material without a reference to the source, and it is difficult to determine authorship.
Are there any cheated sites in the list below? Yes, there are. Scams can be different, the most common – a direct “infusion” traffic, as if the reader himself in his browser opened the desired page. The second most common way is referral, where traffic comes from sites that “whiten” it, or generate artificial traffic through pad sites.
You have to understand that even real traffic comes in different forms. If a crypto-media has the majority of traffic from search engines, is that a good thing? In theory yes, but in practice it could be a section with anecdotes or top motivational phrases somewhere in the back of the site. It collects most of the search traffic and has nothing to do with the cryptocurrency topic.
Occasionally, between news about cryptocurrencies, the site inserts non-thematic articles such as “5 wives of Russian oligarchs who could not find a younger replacement.. Such materials perfectly come from the feed in Yandex.Zen and attract the audience to the site. Visually you get quite legitimate referral traffic from a clear source.
Also, keep in mind that counters often show total traffic. For example, if the Russian version is a subdomain of a more global portal, the counters can show the portal statistics as a whole. If your site has additional popular services, their traffic can also be aggregated.
Rating is based on metrics only. It may not take into account the nuances outlined above. It also does not reflect the quality or quantity of content on the site, nor does it reflect the overall quality or reputation of the resource. It can only be used as a rough guide to estimate the overall attendance of crypto-media.
The SimilarWeb attendance ranking shows the sum of visits for the 6 months from December to May 2020. Alexa rating is indicated in the service’s own points. The lower the number of points, the more popular the site is. Say Google.com has a value of 1 and Cointelegraph.com has a value of 1,638.
