Rosseti: Miners are to blame for accidents on power grids in Siberia

The power disruptions in several local regions have been attributed to the booming cryptocurrency mining industry, according to an announcement by Rosseti Siberia.

The company revealed that there has been a significant rise in the number of unauthorized miners illegally tapping into power grids, resulting in increased strain on the networks. This has led to equipment failures and subsequent power outages, as reported by power engineers.

Recent incidents in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia, and Omsk Region highlighted the impact of mining farms on network stability, following an audit conducted by Rosseti Siberia.

To alleviate the strain on the network and encourage miners to connect through legal means, energy workers propose implementing a differentiated tariff system based on electricity consumption. They believe that such a payment structure would enhance the dependability of networks by incentivizing responsible energy usage.

In a recent proposal, Russian authorities suggested disconnecting miners from electricity for a minimum of 500 hours per year.
