Thai Immigration Officers Kidnap Chinese Citizen and Translator for Crypto Ransom

On March 10, it was reported that the Thai authorities had issued arrest warrants for four immigration officers who allegedly kidnapped a Chinese citizen and his translator, and coerced them into transferring 30,000 USDT stablecoins.

The incident occurred when a local resident, who was working as a translator for a Chinese businessman, contacted the police.

According to Surachate Hakparn, the Deputy Chief of the National Immigration Police, the Chinese businessman had approached an interpreter to help him renew his passport and visa in Bangkok, but the agency rejected his application.

Subsequently, the Chinese citizen and the interpreter were abducted by five men who were waiting for them at home.

The kidnappers then threatened the victims and demanded money. The Chinese citizen had to contact his son in China, who sent the ransom money through the imToken wallet.

The investigation revealed the involvement of four immigration police officers in the attack, and an arrest warrant was issued against them. Meanwhile, the Chinese citizen returned home safely.

In a separate incident, three individuals from Omsk were recently sentenced to prison terms ranging from 6.5 to 9 years for robbing a local resident and stealing 84 million rubles in cryptocurrencies.
