Ethereum Blockchain Faces Major Failure, Network Stops Completing Blocks

On Friday, May 12 the Ethereum blockchain experienced a serious failure – the network stopped completing blocks.
The failure lasted more than an hour and the reason is still unclear, the developers said.

Transactions confirmation failure was detected around 9 p.m. Moscow time. Blocks were offered, but they could not be completed.

Ethereum Foundation developers have confirmed technical problems, but they have not yet said what caused them. The network returned to normal around 10:30 p.m. MSC.

This is the second such failure in the main Ethereum network in 24 hours. On Thursday, May 11, the transactions were not confirmed for about 25 minutes.

The developers promised to release a patch, but before new failure did not have time.

Up to now, Etherium is considered one of the most stable networks on the market.

“I wouldn’t say I’m concerned, but it’s definitely not ideal to work with, – Togrul Magerramov, a developer at startup Scroll, which uses Etherium’s infrastructure, confessed.

In order to tell if what happened is the result of protocol design or a mistake, we first have to understand what really happened.

As in the May 11 crash, developers at the Ethereum Foundation are still
