Taiwan’s digital authority has issued Etherium creator Vitalik Buterin a so-called gold card – a residence permit document with the right to enter the island’s territory at any time.
For the sake of issuing the “golden card” the authorities held a whole ceremony. Audrey Tang, head of the Ministry of Digital Technology, met with the creator of Etherium.
During the meeting, Vitalik and Audrey spoke in Chinese and then sang an old Taiwanese song.
“I’ve previously traveled to Taiwan many times before, and I’ve really enjoyed it every time.
There’s a large Ethereum community here. With a gold card, it will be easier for me to come here,” Buterin said.
The gold card program was launched in Taiwan in 2018. Such a card can be obtained by highly qualified specialists engaged in the spheres of activity particularly important for the island.
The program provides participants with the opportunity to stay in a state not recognized by mainland China for up to three years with employment rights.
Buterin himself, though born in Kolomna, Russia, considers himself a “citizen of the world”.
That said, he is a Canadian citizen but has lived in Switzerland and Singapore for a long time. In June, the entrepreneur submitted three proposals for the development of Etherium.
