Vatican Library to Use Blockchain and NFT Technology to Digitize and Preserve Collection

The Vatican Apostolic Library has announced that it will implement blockchain and NFT technology to digitize and preserve its collection of manuscripts, books and historical documents.

The Vatican Library has launched this project in collaboration with technology service provider NTT DATA. In particular, its digital archiving solution “AMLAD” will be used.

It will preserve the library’s collections as an important part of human history, allow us to quickly find the documents we need, and make digitized content more accessible to the world.

The library’s collection includes 1.6 million printed books, 80,000 works, 300,000 coins and medals, and 150,000 prints and drawings.

Non-exchangeable tokens (NFTs) will feature high-resolution photographs of the library’s 15 cultural heritage sites. The images will be accompanied by explanatory notes.

AMLAD is an advanced metadata library and digital archive for museums and libraries.

With this solution, 3D scanning, digital restoration, and metadata management can be performed, allowing cultural objects to be digitally represented as accurately as possible.

In the future, the AMLAD solution will be available for other museums and libraries. Blockchain and collection tokens are used to store all kinds of data.

For example, last year the U.S. pharmaceutical company CVS Health also announced plans to implement blockchain and NFT in its operations.
