Canadian Government Funds Bilingual Child Development in Meta-Universe

The Canadian government has allocated over a million dollars for bilingual child development through the meta-universe

The Canadian Department of Heritage has allocated CAD $2 million (~$1.5 million) to teach children French using meta-universe technology.

The ministry said in an official press release. The grant was awarded to Voilà Community Help, a Canadian non-profit organization that provides virtual French language instruction across Canada.

The funding will help the organization expand the services of two of its projects: Voilà Learning, a virtual campus, and MétaLingo, an early-childhood French-language education system.

Voilà Community Help says the campus allows students to improve their language skills by combining learning with fun.

With Voilà Learning, students can interact with each other, do their homework, write on the whiteboard, and get help from qualified teachers.

The project also uses artificial intelligence in the work to profile the student and provide personalized educational content.

Another project, MétaLingo, allows preschoolers to communicate in French with their peers through virtual activities and games.

The MétaLingo virtual universe will mimic public places like kindergartens, parks, and cinemas.

Voilà Community Help believes the Canadian government’s investment “will meet new needs and priorities for French language instruction, beginning in early childhood.

Canada has two official languages: English and French. According to 2022 data, 75.5 per cent of Canadians spoke English, and 21.4 per cent spoke French.

In the meantime, the Bank of Canada has decided to consult with the public on what citizens think about issuing a digital version of the Canadian dollar.

The list of questions asks Canadian citizens if they have heard of the digital version of the Canadian dollar, what methods of calculation they use most often, and why they chose a particular method.

Respondents are also asked about the availability of cryptocurrencies. The survey runs until June 19, 2023.
