Nanking, capital of China’s eastern Jiangsu province, has unveiled a state-supported technology and application innovation platform focused on the development of the meta-universe across China.

The platform will combine the resources of academic institutions and enterprises in China, to jointly develop a national metaworld.

A metacenter for billions

In late December, authorities in China’s Zhejiang province unveiled a $28.7 billion plan to develop a metacenter for the.

The region, aiming to become one of the country’s largest metaworld centers, plans to create an entire industry of virtual worlds by 2025.

To achieve the goal, Zhejiang authorities have included in the plan the incubation of 10 industry leaders and 50 companies involved in several key metaworld-related technologies, such as artificial intelligence, VR and blockchain.

The meta-universe applications will be used in such activities as design and development of industrial products, surgical practices, and government services.

In addition to Zhejiang, several major cities are developing their own meta-universes, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Wuhan.

In addition to Zhejiang, several major cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Wuhan, are also developing their own metacities.

What the party thinks

Regional development of metacities is not at a standstill, but Chinese authorities have expressed a mixed position on this.

Analysts believe that Beijing is concerned about the excitement surrounding meta-universes because they could harm the local regime.

In particular, authorities fear that Chinese citizens will conduct “gray” financial schemes with currencies through metacities.

But Chinese authorities are not against the development of virtual worlds, as long as they obey the rules of the party, because this technology can play into the hands of the state economy.

These include VR developments in the fields of medicine, engineering, and education.

At the same time, China’s negative attitude to the cryptocurrency market deprives the developers of the meta-universe of significant room for monetization of an already costly business.
