Fortnite developer reveals details on LEGO’s meta universe

The new collaboration between LEGO and Epic Games will focus on the cross-platform nature and simplicity of the meta-universe, the parties said

The meta-universe in the collaboration between Epic Games and LEGO will be available on both personal computers and mobile devices. This was announced by Julia Goldin, Director of Marketing of LEGO Group, at the International Festival of Creativity “Cannes Lions”, writes Fast Company.

The technical details of the collab remain unclear. However, Goldin assures that LEGO fans can expect a quality experience from the meta-universe under the wing of Epic Games. Epic Games president Adam Sussman said that both companies want to lower the entry threshold as much as possible so that as many people as possible can try the new project, regardless of the game platform.

Goldin admits that the hype around meta universes has already waned due to the hype around artificial intelligence. However, the parties are still committed to their original plans and want to actually show their interpretation of the virtual world, she noted.

In addition to the overall meta-universe project, the LEGO Group is also working on third-party projects with products from Epic Games. For example, according to Goldin, the company intends to use the Unreal Engine (owned by Epic Games) to digitize about 10,000 different LEGO cubes so artists can create virtual spaces with digitized objects.

Reminder, in April 2022, Sony Group Corporation and LEGO owner KIRKBI invested $2 billion in Epic Games to develop a meta-universe. At the time, Epic Games head Tim Sweeney said the investment would accelerate efforts to create meta-universes and spaces where players can “have fun with friends, brands can create creative and immersive experiences, and developers can build communities and thrive.”
