Opponents Demand Abandonment of Digital Asset Excise Tax as U.S. Debt Ceiling Bill Takes Priority

The urgency of agreeing on the U.S. national debt ceiling bill has allowed opponents of the Digital Asset Excise Tax (DAME) to demand that the Joe Biden administration abandon its intention to collect the controversial tax.

Pierre Rochard, vice president of the mining company Riot Blockchain, said on Twitter that the miners have achieved a major victory over federal authorities.

According to the businessman, the current government under pressure from opponents decided not to include DAME in the latest version of the bill on the debt ceiling.

Pierre Rochear is referring to a report from Congressman Warren Davidson, who said the controversial tax has been eliminated by the administration and is not mentioned
in the published text of the bill.

The DAME excise tax was announced by the Biden administration on May 2 based on recommendations from the Council of Economic Advisers to the President (CEA).

The proceeds were supposed to go toward fixing the climate damage associated with cryptocurrency mining.

The rejection of the government’s fiscal claims on miners confirmed the prediction of Senator Cinthia Lummis, who said the Biden administration’s proposed thirty percent tax on miners’ income was unlikely to pass.
