Secret state-run mining farms discovered in Bhutan

Satellite images from Planet Labs, Satellite Vu and Google Earth have given away the location of four state-owned cryptocurrency mining operations in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

In the satellite images, long rectangular hangars can be seen amid dense forests and mountainous terrain long rectangular hangars are visible. Sources familiar with crypto investments in this small Southeast Asian country have told several media outlets that the hangars house mining devices and data center cooling systems. However, officials in the Kingdom of Bhutan have never mentioned or disclosed the existence of state-run mining farms or the location and scale of the facilities.

In August, Bitdeer, a company founded by the owner of Bitmain, announced
the completion of its own 23,000 ASIC mining farm in the Bhutanese city of Gedu.
