Argentine authorities will allow financial contracts to be concluded in cryptocurrencies

Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Diana Mondino announced a groundbreaking development in the country’s economic system. According to Mondino, a new decree has been signed that enables the use of various currencies, including Bitcoin, for contracts and payments.

The aim of this decree is to reform the economic system of Argentina and reduce market regulations. Although the document, titled “Fundamentals for the reconstruction of the Argentine economy,” does not explicitly mention cryptocurrencies, it allows the use of any currencies, even those that are not recognized as legal tender in Argentina.

In a statement posted on the X social network, Diana Mondino reiterated the government’s commitment to this decision: “We ratify and confirm that in Argentina contracts can be settled in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. Moreover, participants can denominate payment even in kilograms of meat and liters of milk.”

The decree, specifically Article 1 196, empowers parties to independently determine the amount and type of currency used for bonds or collateral, as well as the method of compensation after the contract concludes.

In a related development, the Minister of Economy of Argentina previously highlighted the potential role of a national digital currency in combating inflation within the country.
