Canadian lottery winner targeted by cryptocurrency scammers on Facebook

Scott Gurney, a 58-year-old Canadian man who won $55 million in a lottery, has become a victim of cryptocurrency scammers who are impersonating him on Facebook.

These scammers are creating fake accounts with his name and photo, and then sending friend requests to unsuspecting users.

On these fake pages, the imposters claim that they will distribute the lottery winnings by giving away $30,000 to 20 families.

However, they first ask for a transfer of a certain amount in bitcoins, and once they receive the cryptocurrency, the victims are left with nothing.

Several people have fallen victim to this scam, losing hundreds of dollars in BTC. The real Scott Gurney has discovered 11 fake accounts with his photo holding a lottery check.

He claims that he did not upload such photos to the internet and does not accept or send friend requests on Facebook.

Gurney has warned people to be more cautious and not to trust offers that seem too good to be true.

Gurney expressed his surprise at people’s willingness to believe that someone would give away their assets for free.

He said that he does not know anyone who would do such a thing. Meanwhile, Australian billionaire Gina Rinehart has also complained about the spread of fake news on social media platforms that falsely claim that she has invested in some cryptocurrency projects.
