Telegram adds ability to accept crypto payments via Wallet Pay

Telegram introduces Wallet Pay service for cryptocurrency payments in bitcoin, Tether USD (USDT) stablecoin, and Toncoin (TON) cryptocurrency. About it writes Cointelegraph with reference to representatives of Wallet.

The Wallet Pay service provides crypto payments between users and retailers, allowing direct payments in the Telegram interface.

Sources at Wallet told Cointelegraph that the new payment feature is already available in all jurisdictions supported by the wallet service. Also, the technology definitely doesn’t work in Iran, Myanmar and North Korea.

Some countries where the Wallet bot operates don’t allow residents to pay with cryptocurrency. For these cases, Wallet places compliance responsibility on local companies.

“Companies should clarify before applying to use Wallet Pay: whether they are allowed to do business within their jurisdiction,” the company explained.

In April, Telegram announced that messenger users would be able to buy, exchange and send bitcoins to each other through the Wallet bot’s web interface. In March, messenger users were able to buy, sell, exchange, and transfer Tether (USDT) stablecoins to each other for free right in chat rooms;
