Microsoft Edge Browser Might Soon Have a Built-in Cryptocurrency Wallet, Says Researcher

Albacore, a software researcher hailing from central Europe, recently revealed a stunning discovery about Microsoft Edge browser. According to him, the browser code contains code for integrating a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet.

The screenshots shared by Albacore showed a user interface with features like a decentralized application store, a news feed service, and a fully functional cryptocurrency wallet.

Interestingly, the wallet interface allows users to buy cryptocurrencies through the Coinbase exchange and the MoonPay service.

Despite all the built-in functionality, the cryptocurrency wallet remains hidden from users. Albacore emphasized that this code does not always make it into release versions as the Edge browser team is constantly experimenting with various features.

As the researcher noted, Microsoft developers often test a variety of features and look at their adoption. Sometimes, they even throw the child into the water to see if it comes up.

The long list of features added and removed by the team is a testament to this experimentation. Nevertheless, Albacore believes that Microsoft developers are already prepared to launch full-fledged support for cryptocurrencies in their browser.

The researcher thinks that Microsoft is evaluating whether users will want features similar to the Web3-oriented Brave browser. If this is true, then Edge could be a major player in the cryptocurrency space.

As of now, Microsoft has not confirmed the availability of cryptocurrency wallet functionality in the Edge browser. A representative of the company stressed that the developers are constantly testing new features and functions.

However, it is worth noting that Opera remains one of the most popular browsers with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.

Last year, Opera developers added the ability to issue NFTs directly in the browser, indicating a growing trend towards incorporating blockchain technology into mainstream browsers.
