Welsh government tests blockchain to control agricultural supplies

The Welsh Government, with the assistance of technology companies Prime UK and iov42, tested an agricultural supply control system.

Participants in the locally funded pilot reported successfully testing blockchain technology to track agricultural supply chains from origination to retail.

The first European project of its kind aims to create local and global certification schemes and improve traceability and impartiality in the farm produce market, the Welsh government said.. Global Challenge: Creating a platform with automatic accountability checks.

For the next three months, iov42 and Prime UK intend to work with local government to create a data-sharing platform that will create blockchain-based secure records for accreditation bodies, certification bodies, inspection bodies, testing labs, regulatory agencies, local governments, and agricultural suppliers and their customers.

Earlier, a similar experiment was conducted
Canadian Sheep Federation and SheepChain, which explored the possibilities of using blockchain for sheep farming.
