Belarus will ban private exchange of cryptocurrencies

  • All transactions can only be made through a special platform
  • This is how the Lukashenko regime is allegedly fighting illegal money trafficking

The Belarusian Interior Ministry is preparing a new law that will prohibit the exchange of cryptocurrencies between individuals.

“For transparency and control, such financial transactions by citizens will only be allowed through HTP [High Tech Park] exchanges.”

The Interior Ministry cites crime statistics as an argument. According to them, 27 illegal exchangers have been detained in the Republic of Belarus since the beginning of the year.. The total revenue of such outlets amounted to 22 million rubles.

In many cases, digital money is used by con artists to launder money and finance criminal schemes.

“The introduction of practices similar to the foreign currency exchange procedure will make it impossible to withdraw money obtained by criminal means.. Under such conditions, it will be simply unprofitable for fraudsters in the field of information technology to operate in Belarus.”

Lukashenko no longer a miner?”

In March 2022, Alexander Lukashenko announced plans to use cheap electricity to mine cryptocurrencies. At a meeting with farmers, the self-proclaimed president said that Belarusians are poorly received abroad and the only job they can count on is low-paid farm labor.. For example, strawberry picking in Poland and Germany. He then advised agrarians to switch to bitcoin mining.

“Bet on electricity and start mining cryptocurrency or whatever it’s called. There is enough electricity in the country.”
