Bitcoin Whale Awakens: $3.5 Million in BTC Sent to Newly Created Segwit Address

  • He moved more than $3.5 million.
  • 139 BTC were sent to the newly created Segwit address
  • Coins the whale purchased back in 2011

On May 13, 2023, another bitcoin whale awoke and sent 139 BTC to the newly created Segwit address.

He bought his bitcoins 12 years ago and paid about $2,250 for them. Now the $2,250 has turned into $3.5 million.

This is the fourth bitcoin kit in a month that has shown activity in a long time.

In late April, the bitcoin kit woke up after 12 years of inactivity, and moved nearly $11 million worth of bitcoins.

On April 24, he sent 400 BTC in batches of 100 to another address. Notably, the transaction fee was 19 satoshi, or $5.22.

Ahead of him, the wallet, which has not shown any activity for the past 10 years, transferred 279 BTC totaling $7.8 million to three fresh addresses.

In October 2012 and May 2013, 1,128 bitcoins were transferred to this wallet. At the time, the price was $12 and $195 per coin, respectively.

It’s hard to say whether these moves are related to coin sales or simply a change in storage strategy.

Given that Bitcoin is anonymous, we may never know who owns the coins or how they are used.

Analytics company Glassnode reported that the likelihood of dormant coins being sold increases after 155 days, which may indicate a change in owners’ opinions.
