Connecticut Police Retrieve $63,500 in Cryptocurrency Scam Investigation

Connecticut authorities have successfully recovered $63,500 in a recent investigation involving a cryptocurrency phishing scam. The Connecticut State Police (CSP) collaborated with the Statewide Prosecution Bureau to recover the funds on behalf of a Cheshire resident who fell victim to the fraudulent scheme. The scam, which occurred in April, resulted in the loss of over $68,000 in cryptocurrency as the victim was enticed by an offer of new tokens.

Through the use of blockchain analytics, CSP detectives were able to track the stolen funds to the suspect’s digital wallet, where a significant portion of the cryptocurrency was stored. Subsequent legal actions culminated in the seizure of more than $63,500, all of which was successfully returned to the victim following a motion filed in Meriden Superior Court.

The ongoing investigation has revealed multiple victims of similar scams across the United States. In light of these findings, the CSP Cryptocurrency Working Group is urging residents to remain vigilant against unsolicited offers involving cash, cryptocurrency, or investments. Furthermore, they caution against sharing personal or financial information with unknown individuals.

In the event of potential fraud, individuals are strongly encouraged to contact the CSP via email for further assistance and guidance.
