Cryptoinvestors lost $45 million in May due to ragpolls

  • The largest scheme is Fintoch, where the administration got away with $31.6 million
  • It is remarkable that the damage from ragpuffs exceeds the losses from hacks of DeFi projects
  • But there have been more successful attacks, as many as 10
  • But the total damage from them was only $19.6 million

There were six high-profile ragpuffs last month. Damages from them amounted to about $45 million.. The largest is the DeFi-Fintoch project, which “disappeared from the radar” on May 24th.

We covered this incident in detail in a separate article. Note that the administration of the project stole $31.6 million of user funds. And there have been no new details on the case so far.

Other major ragpolls are Inferno Drainer ($5.9 million) and Swaprum ($3 million). Notably, the damage from such schemes far exceeded the segment’s losses due to exploits, according to Beosin.

There were a total of 10 large and successful attacks on DeFi protocols last month. Total losses were $19.6 million. The largest is the Jimbos hack, which caused more than $7.5 million in damages.

Beosin also noted an increase in hardware wallet compromises.. Users were warned about the dangers of using public chargers, which can introduce malware.

Beosin suggested that cybercriminals are gradually shifting the attack vector from large players and protocols to ordinary users. This greatly improves productivity, even if it means less profit.

As a result, users need to pay more attention to security measures and be more self-conscious about it.
