Donald Trump-Themed Meme Tokens Surge in Popularity Amidst US Election Frenzy
The cryptocurrency market saw a surge in activity on Election Day as Bitcoin (BTC) prices reached an all-time high. Investors were particularly interested in Donald Trump-themed meme tokens, leading to a significant increase in their market capitalization and trading volume.
Data from CoinMarketCap revealed that the market capitalization of political meme tokens exceeded $640 million, experiencing a 17% growth in just one day. Additionally, the 24-hour trading volume of these tokens skyrocketed by 87%, surpassing $400 million.
Interestingly, while meme tokens related to Trump saw substantial price increases, those associated with Harris experienced significant declines. This reflects traders’ expectations of a Trump victory.
Among the top five political meme tokens based on market capitalization, all recorded gains in the past 24 hours, with most of them being Trump-themed. Conversely, the meme tokens that experienced the sharpest declines were those related to Harris.
One notable token, MAGA (TRUMP), achieved a daily volume of over $40 million, the highest since July 20. Its price exhibited significant volatility, rising from $3 to over $4.7, marking a 55% increase. As of now, it is trading at $3.63. On the other hand, Kamala Harris-themed token, Kamala Horris (KAMA), experienced a 70% drop, falling from $0.015 to $0.0045.
On Election Day, there was also a slight increase in the number of newly created tokens, with over 26,000 new tokens reported by Pump.fun in the past 24 hours. This marks the highest level since the beginning of the month, with a significant number of them being political meme tokens.
DogeDesigner, a prominent figure in the crypto community, predicts that meme tokens will remain in the spotlight for the next four years, stating, “Memes are going to be lit for the next 4 years.”
However, it is important to note that most political-themed meme tokens are spontaneously created and not directly affiliated with the candidates. They also tend to have low trading volumes.
