Federation Council Committee urged to speed up the launch of the digital ruble

The Bank of Russia expects the introduction of the digital ruble sometime between 2025 and 2027, but Senator Ivan Abramov urged the regulator to speed up the introduction of the state digital currency.

Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova specified that the Russian CBDC will be used for payments and transfers, but not for savings, and at the first stage it is planned to limit the amount to be transferred by a physical person/legal entity to the digital 300 000 rubles. First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Ivan Abramov, the process must be accelerated.

The senator stressed: Russia already lags far behind other countries in terms of state cryptocurrencies. Therefore, we should not postpone the introduction of digital rubles until 2025. The parliamentarian believes that digital currencies will simplify payments and reduce the cost of transfers between citizens and companies.

“In parallel, it’s time for the Central Bank to fight the charging of money for transactions from account to account, otherwise why do we need digitalization! It is developing fast, and every year the process is accelerated. Our country should not lag behind,” said Ivan Abramov.
