Human rights foundation offered 20 BTC to improve bitcoin protocol

  • The program will run until the end of 2024.

Human Rights Foundation (HRF) has launched an initiative aimed at identifying flaws in the open-source bitcoin protocol. 20 BTC has been allocated for this program.

The bug bounty contest plans to improve 10 aspects of the protocol, aimed mainly at mobile wallets. There is a reward of 2 BTC for improving one item.

HRF Chief Strategy Officer Alex Gladstein said in an interview with Decrypt that these proposals came from conversations with global activists and represent features that many would like to see in bitcoin.

Gladstein added:

“HRF considers bitcoin and financial freedom an aspect of the fight for human rights. As human rights defenders often face attacks on their bank accounts, bitcoin provides them with a way to continue their work.”

One of the ten objectives is to support and develop Nostr, an open-source social network focused on anti-censorship.
