Leading Ethereum wallet MetaMask has announced its support for Cardano wallet Snap, developed by Web3 self-custody wallet provider NuFi. This integration will allow MetaMask users to interact with the Cardano blockchain, including creating Cardano accounts and using decentralized applications (dApps) on the network. Users will also be able to manage their Cardano native assets, such as ADA and other tokens. This initiative, funded by Catalyst, aims to simplify the process of exploring the Cardano network for those already familiar with MetaMask.
The integration of Cardano support into MetaMask was made possible through the Snap feature, which allows third parties to enhance MetaMask’s functionality by adding community-built extensions to the wallet. With NuFi’s Cardano wallet Snap, MetaMask users can generate Cardano keys from their MetaMask seed phrase, buy ADA with credit cards, or exchange other assets for the Cardano native token.
Adding the Cardano Wallet Snap to MetaMask is a straightforward process that doesn’t require any technical expertise. Users simply need to install the Snap, visit the NuFi platform, and connect MetaMask to the extended wallet. After adding the Snap, users receive a Cardano Wallet and address where they can receive funds to interact with Cardano dApps. The NuFi widget serves as a bridge between MetaMask and the Cardano Wallet, with all signed transactions going through the Snap for approval and confirmation in the MetaMask interface before being submitted to the Cardano blockchain. This feature is available on MetaMask version 12.0.0 and above.
The announcement comes shortly after Cardano completed the Chang hard fork, signaling the network’s transition to the Voltaire era. Since the upgrade, Cardano has garnered significant support from various cryptocurrency projects, including Polkadot, which welcomed Cardano to on-chain governance. Additionally, discussions are underway for DexScreener, a popular DEX analytics platform, to support Cardano and integrate with Cardano-based decentralized exchanges such as Dex Hunter, Minswap, and Saturn Swap.
