New York Times: FBI searches home of former Kraken head

The New York Times reported that searches were conducted at the home of the former CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken Jesse Powell. He is suspected of hacking and harassing a nonprofit organization.

According to the publication’s sources, Jesse Powell is now under investigation – investigators are looking for evidence of hacking and “cyberbullying” at the nonprofit Verge Center for the Arts. And it was Powell who founded the art group.

As part of the investigation, the FBI searched his home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Investigators seized electronic devices from the former head of Kraken.

As Jesse Powell’s attorney pointed out, although the investigation has been ongoing since last fall, the FBI has not yet filed any charges against his client. In addition, attorney Brandon Fox noted that the investigation “has nothing to do with Mr. Powell’s employment or actions in the cryptocurrency industry.”

According to the Verge, Powell prevented employees of the group from accessing emails and other communications. That said, Fox revealed that Powell remains a board member of the organization, so he sued last month in an attempt to regain his “ownership of the email accounts.”

A spokesman for the Kraken exchange said the site’s management was aware of the ongoing investigation and the impending search of the company’s former CEO.

Earlier, a California court approved a request from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for information about users of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken.<br
