Woman Sentenced to Prison for Ethereum-Funded Dark Web Assassination Scheme
A woman from Utah, Krista Renae Stone, aged 23, has been ordered to serve 78 months in federal prison for her involvement in planning a murder-for-hire operation using the dark web, as announced by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday. Stone’s target was her former boyfriend’s new girlfriend, and she had agreed to pay $5,000 in Ethereum to a website that offered hitman services from March to September 2023. Elaborating on the case, the DOJ explained that Stone provided explicit details about the victim, including a photograph, the victim’s whereabouts, and her specific instructions for the execution. However, law enforcement agents managed to uncover the plot prior to it being carried out. In addition to her prison sentence, Stone has also received three years of supervised release.
