Zimbabwe’s mining industry has taken a significant step towards transparency and accountability with the launch of a blockchain-based gold tracking system. Kuvimba Mining House, the largest gold producer in the country, has implemented this system to ensure that all of its gold can be traced from the moment it is mined to its final destination in international markets. The company aims to uphold principles of transparency, legitimacy, and responsible mining, and believes that the use of blockchain technology will greatly enhance the traceability and compliance of its operations. Currently, the system is being utilized at two mines, Freda Rebecca and Jenna, but Kuvimba plans to expand its implementation to cover other minerals as production increases.
