Belarusian Citizens Prosecuted for Operating Illegal Cryptocurrency Exchange

Belarusian citizens who organized a cryptocurrency exchange are prosecuted.

Law enforcers accused two Minsk residents of exchanging digital assets and fiat currency, which brought a profit of 5 million Belarusian rubles ($1.7 million).

Belarusian Interior Ministry assures that one of the suspects earned 3.2 million Belarusian rubles from the underground exchange of cryptocurrencies.

He had accounts at several cryptocurrency exchanges. According to investigators, the resident of Minsk also exchanged funds obtained by criminal means.

The second citizen of Minsk, identified by employees of Kobrin police department, earned less – 2 million Belarusian rubles.

“Given that in the actions of both persons were seen signs of illegal entrepreneurial activity, the materials were transferred to the tax inspectorate of Brest region. 

Legally obtained income will be recovered in the state budget,” said the republican Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Law enforcers remind that, according to the presidential decree № 8 “On the development of the digital economy,” the business of circulation of cryptocurrencies for individuals in the country is prohibited.

Earlier it was reported that two other residents of Minsk will be fined for running an illegal cryptocurrency business.
