Hacker Returns Stolen Funds from DeFi Protocol Euler Finance

The DeFi protocol Euler Finance has experienced an unexpected twist in the history of its hacker attack.

The hacker responsible for the breach has issued an apology and promised to return all the stolen funds. In a message added to the transaction, the hacker wrote, “I screwed up. I didn’t want to, but I ruined other people’s work, other people’s lives. I really didn’t want this. Forgive me.”

The hacker has already returned $177 million out of $197 million stolen and has pledged to return the remaining funds in the near future.

The Euler Finance team reported the attack in March, and the hackers exploited a vulnerability in the protocol’s smart contracts.

Euler attempted to negotiate with the hackers, offering to return 90% of the stolen funds within the first day. Last week, the hackers reached out to Euler Finance, expressing a willingness to return assets that were not theirs.

Euler agreed to discuss the details of the return. In a heartening act, the hackers also transferred 100 ETH to a victim’s wallet after they reported losing all their savings of 78 ETH ($130,000) to the attack.
