Indonesian authorities announced the launch of a national crypto exchange

Indonesia’s Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (CFTRA) plans to launch a national cryptocurrency exchange as early as July.

The state-owned platform will be the only cryptocurrency trading platform in the country.

“We have harmonized the rules of the stock exchange… We have also conducted system integration tests between traders and exchanges,” Didid Noordiatmoko, the agency’s head, told the news agency

Trading on the exchange will be offered through an app that has already been tested by CFTRA. The tests concerned Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade had planned to launch a national cryptocurrency exchange as early as June 2023. Before that, the target was December 2022, but the project was postponed.

Bali’s government recently said it was going to crack down on tourists using cryptocurrency as a means of payment at hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and other tourist spots. The Indonesian government has amended the country’s legislation to treat digital assets as securities.
