Hong Kong Cybersecurity Bureau Launches CyberDefender Metaverse to Combat Web3 Crimes

The Hong Kong Cybersecurity and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) has launched the CyberDefender Metaverse platform to inform the public about the dangers associated with the Web3 industry and metaclasses.

Hong Kong Police Cybersecurity Unit assures that CyberDefender Metaverse will help prevent crimes in cyberspace.

Law enforcers intend to prepare citizens for the “challenges of the digital age.

The platform hosted a presentation called Exploring the Metaverse, which discussed strategies for preventing crime in virtual worlds.

CSTCB Chief Inspector Ip Cheuk-yu urged metaworld users to be vigilant because investment fraud, unauthorized access to systems, theft of crypto-assets and sexual crimes can also be committed in metaworlds.

“The decentralization of virtual assets in Web3 increases the likelihood of cybercrime.

Attackers are targeting users’ cryptocurrency storage devices as well as virtual asset wallets and smart contracts,” the CSTCB inspector said.

Hong Kong police have promised that they will hold more educational seminars for young people on the latest advances in information technology.

We will also talk about crimes that use the latest technology. According to law enforcement officials, there were 663 offenses related to virtual assets in the first quarter of 2023.

The victims’ total losses were $570 million, a 75% increase over the first quarter of 2022.

A research platform for the digital economy and meta-universes was recently unveiled in Nanjing, China.
