A single miner mined a Bitcoin block and received about $200,000

Yet another instance of a single miner successfully mining a block on the Bitcoin network has emerged. On April 28th, a user of the ckpool, designed for individual miners, managed to mine block 841,286, resulting in the user receiving a substantial reward of 3,125 BTC.

According to Con Kolivas, the developer and administrator of the ckpool, this specific block, labeled as block 282, was mined by a lone miner. Kolivas revealed that during the block validation process, the single miner’s equipment displayed a total power of 120 Ph/s. However, on average per week, the miner typically produced around 12 Ph/s, which roughly accounts for just 0.02% of the entire network power. Apparently, the miner opted to rent additional capacity, which eventually aided in the successful mining of a Bitcoin block.

Kolivas added that it seemed the miner recently shifted from participating in traditional mining pools to venturing into solo mining. Potentially, the standard mining process may have become less profitable for the miner after the most recent halving, prompting them to take a chance with solo mining. Mining a block as an individual miner is akin to winning the lottery, as this type of accomplishment is exceptionally rare.

Notably, last year, Bits.Media reported on two solo miners who were successfully mining Bitcoin blocks, with one of them hailing from Russia. However, the previous block mined by a single miner occurred on April 5th.
