Kyrgyz authorities have approved the placement of a mining farm at the HPPP

Kyrgyz authorities approved the placement of a mining farm inside the Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power plant. About $20 million will be spent to build a farm with a capacity of up to 30 MW.

The Kambar-Ata hydropower plant, which was commissioned in 2010, produces 120 MW of electricity. However, only 90 MW can be taken from them due to capacity. The balance in the form of 30 MW of electricity was simply vaporized. Thus, during 13 years of operation of the HPP, 6 billion 816 million kWh of electricity was lost, which in monetary terms amounts to 3 billion 275 million soms.

“For such connivance it is possible to bring to responsibility the former managers. For not paying attention to the loss of 30 MW for 13 years,” said President Sadyr Zhaparov.

He also said that the mining farm will cost about $20 million and will be built by an investor;

“Once the mining farm is up and running, there won’t be those very losses. The money earned will go to the energy companies or, to be more precise, to the common people. Every tyyn, every kW will be monitored by the power engineers,” Zhaparov said.

Since 2022, a separate law of Kyrgyzstan has defined virtual assets, one of which is cryptocurrency (unsecured virtual asset). Cryptocurrency cannot be a means of payment, currency or security, and transactions involving it are regulated activities. It is subject to income tax at the rate of 10%. In addition, all miners must be registered in a special registry.
