MetaMask plans to launch the Snaps protocol by the end of 2023

Popular Ethereum wallet MetaMask plans to launch the Snaps protocol by the end of 2023. It will give users the ability to interact with apps on other networks, The Defiant reported.

MetaMask describes Snaps as “open source, allowing anyone to securely extend the functionality of the wallet.”

The protocol’s senior developer, Christian Montoya, told The Defiant that Snaps should foster an ecosystem of developers who create innovative apps. He added that wallet providers typically prioritize simplicity and security.

“This means that the user experience of wallets has barely changed over the past few years,” the developer noted.

He emphasized that new features will be gradually introduced as more APIs are integrated with the protocol. For example, Snaps can now alert you when the Ethereum Name Service expires.

MetaMask provides developers with documentation, tutorials, and tools to help them get started learning the features of Snaps. The company has also created a separate Twitter account where developers can submit questions and support requests for Snaps.

In early July, MetaMask announced an update to its wallet. They’ve improved the layout, and made it easier to connect to sites, choose a network and account.
