NFT Market Struggles Continue: August Witnesses Steep Declines in Sales, Buyers, and Transactions

The NFT market has endured a challenging period in 2024, and August has proven to be no exception. Following a 36.6% drop in July, NFT sales experienced another significant decline in August, plunging by 41.36%.

According to data from cryptoslam.io, NFT sales for the month totaled approximately $376.30 million, representing a sharp decrease of 41.36% compared to July. The number of NFT buyers also declined by 29.04%, while sellers witnessed a drop of 17.02% during the same period. Additionally, the total number of NFT transactions in August stood at around 7.45 million, marking a 50% decrease from the previous month. Among the top five blockchains in terms of NFT sales, four witnessed a decline in August, with Mythos Chain being the only exception, enjoying a 14.31% rise.

Ethereum emerged as the leading blockchain for NFTs in August, generating $129 million in sales. However, this figure represented a significant decline of 37.53% compared to July. Solana followed closely with $78.94 million in sales, reflecting a decrease of approximately 35.54%. Bitcoin NFT sales also suffered a significant setback, plummeting by 50.58% to $57.65 million. Polygon secured the fourth position in August with $36.44 million in sales, but this represented a sharp drop of 52.24%. Meanwhile, as mentioned earlier, Mythos defied the trend and experienced $20.5 million in NFT sales, showing gains for the month.

Among the top-performing NFT collections in August, Mythos’ Dmarket emerged as the leader, accumulating $20.28 million in NFT sales, marking a 17.45% increase from July. Ethereum’s Cryptopunks followed closely behind with a remarkable 139.41% surge, generating $18.53 million over the month. Immutable’s Guild of Guardians secured the third spot with $14.55 million in sales, representing a 110% rise. Sorare held the fourth position with $13.32 million in sales, while Bored Ape Yacht Club rounded out the top five with $11.47 million in August sales.

In terms of high-ticket NFTs, the most expensive one in August was an Uncategorized Ordinal, which fetched a hefty sum of $2.4 million just 16 days ago. It was closely followed by Ethereum’s Bored Ape Yacht Club #2,579, which sold for $342,542 approximately 17 days ago. Other notable high-value NFTs originated from Arbitrum, BNB, and Ronin. As the NFT market continues to face significant pressure this year, predicting its future trajectory in the coming months or by the end of the year remains challenging. The past two months have indeed been brutal for NFT sales.
