A migrant stole 3 million rubles from a Chelyabinsk resident while selling cryptocurrency

Chelyabinsk police reported the arrest of a foreign citizen who stole 3 million rubles from a city resident under the pretext of selling cryptocurrency.

In the press service of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Chelyabinsk.. Chelyabinsk was told that a man born in 1989 turned to law enforcement agencies. According to him, he tried to buy cryptocurrency and contacted the seller through one of the messengers. The transaction was to take place in the meeting room of one of the bank’s branches. But the seller, having received 3 million rubles, simply fled the building.

The police found out the address of the apartment rented by the fraudster, and later managed to apprehend him as well. It turned out that the man, born in 1967, had already been convicted of similar crimes several times, and the criminal used a fake passport of a Russian citizen to travel across Russia.

“Under the weight of the evidence collected, the detainee gave a confession. In addition, there are reasons to believe that the detainee is involved in committing similar crimes on the territory of Russia, in particular in Kazan and Moscow. A criminal case has been opened against the suspect on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Fraud),” the agency said in a statement.

Now the criminal is placed in a temporary detention center, work is underway to elect a measure of restraint.
