Circle and Tether froze $67 million worth of cryptocurrency withdrawn from Multichain

Circle and Tether have blacklisted five addresses containing $67.5 million in assets recently stolen by hackers from the Multichain project.

Circle, the USDC issuer, has frozen three accounts with $65 million in assets, PeckShield analysts said on Twitter. And Fantom Foundation officials claim that Tether, the USDT issuer, has frozen two more accounts with $2.53 million.

Multichain project halted on July 7 after serious vulnerability was discovered. The Multichain team said it was “unsure of the details of the events and is currently investigating the incident.”

Multichain developers then confirmed the transfer of funds, assuring that the team is investigating. They urged users to stop using the project’s services. SlowMist, an analytics company, explicitly announced that what happened was a hack.

PechShield estimates the value of the assets stolen as a result of the exploit to be about $126 million;

Earlier, PeckShield summarized the results of cryptoproduct hacks for June – attackers managed to steal almost $93 million in cryptocurrency. Hackers made a total of 42 infiltrations. The largest hack was of cryptocurrency wallet Atomic Wallet, from which $12 million of crypto-assets were withdrawn.
