PointsBet Warns Customers of Email Phishing Attack Offering Crypto Investment

Australian bookmaker PointsBet urged its customers to delete an email offering to invest in cryptoassets.

On Thursday evening, May 11, the betting company announced to customers a complete suspension of communication via email channels.

The reason was a suspected phishing attack on an email server.

Unknown criminals tried to motivate PointsBet customers to click the link in the email to their resource, which offered to invest in crypto-assets.

In return, people were promised that the funds credited to their crypto accounts would be doubled.

PointsBet asked its users not to click on any links or respond to emails. The company apologized for the inconvenience and assured that attackers did not have access to personal customer data.

However, the bookmaker’s customers found the claim unconvincing because the email was sent from PointsBet’s own domain.

Security experts at Cyble Research found new malware designed specifically for macOS devices that can steal passwords and cryptocurrency keys.
